Richard T. Greener Spotlight: Karra McCray

As a young woman from Georgetown, SC unsure of how she was going to afford the college education she always dreamed of, the Richard T. Greener (RTG) scholarship provided hope and a sense of pride and purpose. The scholarship also gave her a thriving network and strong support system that always made sure she felt encouraged and supported at the university.

 Karra McCray received the scholarship in 2012 and earned a Bachelor of Arts  in Political Science in 2016.

“Obtaining a degree from UofSC was a great benefit to both my personal and professional life,” Karra shared. “Personally, I gained more confidence and was pushed out of my comfort zone and into leadership positions that helped me to grow and develop my own skillset.” Professionally, I was able to take advantage of several opportunities such as studying abroad and conducting research that allowed me to remain competitive on a national level.”

Karra currently serves as the Assistant Faculty Principal at the International House at Maxcy College at the University of South Carolina.

Karra shared that she is “forever grateful for the Black Alumni Council and their continuous support to the Richard T. Greener scholarship.”
