Dickson Rose Endowed Scholarship Fund

In August 1993, a group of visionaries from the then USC Charlotte Area Alumni Club entered into a Memorandum of Agreement with the University of South Carolina Educational Foundation in which a permanently endowed Charlotte Student Scholarship was established.

Over the next few years, enough funds were raised to provide one scholarship per year to a deserving Charlotte area student. The agreement was to raise $10,000 so that the income would provide a $500 scholarship. Additionally, the University agreed to provide reduced tuition for the selected student. The first scholarship was awarded in the late 1990’s. We applaud these visionaries for their efforts in establishing this successful fund.

In the early 2000s, the Charlotte Area Alumni Club and the Charlotte Gamecock Club joined forces and made a concerted effort to grow this endowed fund. Through several fundraising efforts, this endowment will soon have grown tenfold to close to $100,000. Currently, three new scholarships are awarded annually and the deserving students will be allowed to keep them for four years if they maintain the established grade point average (GPA). As the fund grows, more scholarships will be awarded. The sky is the limit!

All Charlotte area alumni, now over 9,000 strong, are encouraged to contribute to this fund, now known as the Dickson Rose Endowed Scholarship Fund. A major source of growth for the fund has been proceeds raised from the annual Charlotte Gamecocks Scholarship Golf Tournament where over $30,000 has been raised.
