For 40 years, the USC Alumni Association Black Alumni Council has worked to encourage black alumni of the university to be involved in all things South Carolina. Connecting with fellow Gamecocks, supporting the Association, and advocating for the University together enriches the experience of all Gamecocks.

Since 1983, the Black Alumni Council has actively worked to attract bright students to the university by providing scholarships to graduating high school seniors who have excelled academically through the Richard T. Greener scholarship. The scholarship is named after the first African-American to graduate from Harvard University in 1870 — eventually becoming the first African-American faculty member at Carolina in 1873.
